‘All Sewn Up’ Fashion Workshops

The 'All Sewn Up' Sewing Workshops were set up in October 2010, providing 'Basic Garment Construction Workshops' for those wanting to learn to sew and make their own clothes. By March 2011, over 10 workshops are now offered providing workshops for bags, cushions, snap purses, fastenings and many more.

With help from fashion designer Helen Rhiannon, you can learn how to make your own clothes, handmade gifts or soft furnishings in these friendly and sociable workshops. There are lots of photos on the Facebook fanpage below so have a look through to see what you could make yourself!

Workshops are usually held in the Helen Rhiannon Design Studio but for workshops with more than four people, they will be held in St Hilary’s Church Hall in Killay.

Helen will be embarking on a round the world trip in October and will be returning at the start of March 2012 with lots of fantastic new ideas, fabrics and enthusiasm to teach! BASIC SEWING WORKSHOP – HOW TO USE YOUR SEWING MACHINE

LEVEL - BASIC

This workshop is for all beginners who either have not used their sewing machines before or those who are a bit rusty and need a re-cap.  You will learn all the basics and also leave the workshop with a small hand made cushion to show off your newly acquired skills!

It is recommended that you attend this workshop before moving onto other workshops.

Love handbags?  Well this workshop is for you!  You will learn how to make your own simple bag in your favourite colours and fabrics.  You will need to have completed the ‘Basic Sewing Workshop’ or have some basic sewing skills already.  You should know how to wind a bobbin, thread your machine and be confident sewing simple seams.

You will have a choice of two styles of bags to make and a selection of fabrics to choose from.

Duration of workshop: - 3 hours.

CRAZY ABOUT CUSHIONS
LEVEL - BASIC

Are you crazy about cushions?  If you love cushions and want to learn how to make your own unique cushions to decorate your home, this workshop is for you.  You will need to have completed the ‘Basic Sewing Workshop’ or have some basic sewing skills already.  You should know how to wind a bobbin, thread your machine and be confident sewing simple seams.

You will have a choice of three design styles to choose from for your cushion.  You will be able to choose from a range of fabrics provided but it is also a good idea to bring fabrics you have yourself to make your cushion more personal and suited to your home.

Duration of workshop: - 3 hours.

BUNTING AND HEARTS

LEVEL - BASIC

Do you love creating beautiful handmade crafts for your own home?  Making bunting and hearts is a great way of decorating your own home or making unique personalised gifts for others.  You will need to have completed the ‘Basic Sewing Workshop’ or have some basic sewing skills already.  You should know how to wind a bobbin, thread your machine and be confident sewing simple seams.

You will have a simple template to use to cut out your bunting.  You will be able to choose from a range of fabrics provided but it is also a good idea to bring fabrics you have yourself to make your bunting more personal and suited to your home or as a gift.  Scrap fabrics can be used to make bunting also so bring along what you have handy!  If you have time, you can then learn to make simple beautiful heart shaped gifts with your scraps.

SNAP PURSES
LEVEL - BASIC

Learn how to make beautiful snap purses for yourself or perfect gifts for friends. The purses are a little fiddly to make for the first time but with a little help and guidance and tea breaks you will soon master them! Fabric is provided but bring your own to make them more personal to you or your friends. Frames are provided also.

CREATIVE WORKSHOP
LEVEL - BASIC

This new workshops is all about playing with fabrics to create fun and unusual samples using a range of techniques which you can then decorate everything from bags, cushions to creating textile pieces to frame. Photos will follow very soon with ideas and previous samples created. The workshop will be for three hours but you can work at your own pace and create whatever you would like to!

Creative workshop-manipulating fabrics.


ALTERATION WORKSHOP

LEVEL - BASIC

Fed up of constantly paying ridiculous prices for altering your clothes?  This workshop will teach you the basics for any alteration and touch upon some of the more technical ways of altering clothing.  You will learn how to alter hems of trousers and skirts, mending holes, securing beading, letting out and taking in clothing and personal alteration queries.  You will need to have completed the ‘Basic Sewing Workshop’ or have some basic sewing skills already.  You should know how to wind a bobbin, thread your machine and be confident sewing simple seams.

You can bring clothing that you need to alter or you can practice on old pieces of clothing you may have.  Fabric will be provided to complete samples to take home with you.

Duration of workshop: - 6 hours.
One Day Workshop 10am - 4:30pm (Half hour for lunch) OR Two Evening Workshops 6-9pm.

BASIC GARMENT CONSTRUCTION
LEVEL - BASIC

Want to learn how to make your own clothes out of fabrics you love and styles that flatter your unique shape?  This basic workshop starts right at the beginning with making a simple garment.  You will have help with buying a suitable pattern and fabric before you even start the workshop.  When you start the workshop, you will learn how to understand your pattern, cut it out, pin to fabric, sew it all together and small alterations to get a better fit.

You will need to have completed the ‘Basic Sewing Workshop’ or have some basic sewing skills already.  You should know how to wind a bobbin, thread your machine and be confident sewing simple seams.

Duration of workshop: - 12 hours.
Two Day Workshop 10am – 5.00pm (Hour for lunch) OR Four Evening Workshops 6-9pm.

INTERMEDIATE GARMENT CONSTRUCTION – PATTERN OF YOUR CHOICE
LEVEL - INTERMEDIATE

This workshop is the next step up from the Basic Garment Construction Workshop.  You will be able to choose slightly more complicated patterns, allowing you develop your skills and learn to make a wider selection of clothes for your own wardrobe! You will have help with buying a suitable pattern and fabric before you even start the workshop.  Throughout the workshop, you will have one to one help with how to cut out, pin and sew your garment together.

You will need to have completed the ‘Basic Garment Construction Workshop’ before starting this workshop.

Duration of workshop: - 14 hours.
Two Day Workshop 10am – 6.00pm (Hour for lunch) OR Four Evening Workshops 6-9.30pm.
